Scapa India Celebrates New Factory Inauguration in Chennai
On Sunday 6 May, 2018, Scapa Industrial celebrated the inauguration of its new factory in Chennai, India.
The opening of the new site is the latest milestone in Scapa India’s ongoing and successful growth journey and reinforces Scapa Group’s commitment to providing world-class manufacturing locally to support our strategic partners.
To continue to drive our performance, we have invested significantly in expanding our manufacturing footprint and increasing our capabilities to meet customers’ expectations. The new facility is the first of its kind in capacity in the Chennai region and is strategically located to serve our growing Automotive business.
Our expanded capabilities include high-speed conversion lines, and precision die-cutting and kitting capabilities to expand our high-value turn-key offerings across our Automotive, Consumer, and Cable businesses. In addition, to maximise the site’s potential, the expansive manufacturing space and warehousing will allow for scalability and future growth opportunities.
The adhesive tapes market is projected to grow from $51.25 billion in 2017 to $69.42 billion by 2022*, with the Asia Pacific region emerging as the fastest growing market. With this future focus in mind, we are now well positioned to serve our current regional and global customers effectively and equipped to adapt to the developing needs of both existing and new customers.
The story of Scapa India’s remarkable growth begins in 2011 where, from an office of just 100 square feet, two employees delivered $500k in revenue. Over the following seven years, the manufacturing footprint and capabilities expanded to meet ever increasing customer demand. Today, Scapa India is the second largest tape manufacturer in India, with revenue of $10m. The new, purpose built facility now stands at 36,000 square feet and is equipped to deliver significant growth and service our customers across the Asia Pacific region.
We were honoured to host multiple customers as well as special guests Mr. K Gnanadesikan, Additional Chief Secretary of the Industries Department in the Government of Tamil Nadu, Chennai, and Mr. Bharat Joshi, British Deputy High Commissioner for Chennai at the inauguration. In addition, we welcomed Dr. Shivkumar, Chairman and Managing Director of Shivas Auto Components.
Special recognition is extended to Balaji Balasundaram, Country Manager India, Michael Turner, Operations Manager, and the dedicated Scapa India team, who, over the last eighteen months, have taken the facility from concept to reality. The result is a word-class facility which will serve us as we continue to drive exceptional growth for Scapa India.
